The Government of Malta has recently launched a new national energy policy following wide consultation with all stakeholders.
The policy is based on a series of objectives aimed at diversifying the energy mix used in Malta while accelerating a shift in the energy culture. The policy is based on five main principles: diversification, security of supply, efficiency and affordability.
As the EU member state which is most dependent on fossil fuels, and in light of its obligations in terms of EU policy to produce 10% of all its energy through clean resources by 2020, Malta is placing a lot of importance on the use of sun and light to produce energy.
The Government shall, in fact, shortly be launching the largest Maltese PV subsidy scheme benefitting around 7,000 families.
