Various updates have been made to the Employment and Industrial Relations Act (Chapter 462 of the Laws of Malta) on the 20th of December 2022 in relation to fixed terms contracts and

As from 15 February 2015, the competence of the Court of Magistrates in its civil jurisdiction has increased from €11,646.87 to €15,000 as part of a number of amendments to the Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure (Cap. 12, Laws of Malta).

As a result, the Court of Magistrates (Malta) in its civil jurisdiction has competence to deal with cases ‘against persons residing or having their ordinary abode in any part of the Island of Malta’ where the claim is less than €15,000, and any other cause which is expressly assigned to it by law.
