We are pleased to launch our Trainee’s programme for summer 2023. To commemorate this launch, we are sharing Dr. Emma Fenech’s testimonial of her experience as a trainee with the firm. Emma Fenech had joined David Zahra & Associates Advocates as a Trainee Associate in July 2019. Emma has grown with the firm and is now one of our associates.
Emma sat down with us to share her past experience while undergoing her prattika at our firm:
Can you elaborate on your experience in the trainee’s programme? What have you learned and what was special about our programme?
I embarked on my prattika journey at David Zahra & Associates Advocates while pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (Honours). As a student, I was eager to apply the theoretical concepts I had learned in university to real-life situations and gain practical, hands-on experience in various practice areas.
My traineeship at the firm proved to be an invaluable experience, not only because of the exposure to different practice areas, but also because I was entrusted with important responsibilities that allowed me to integrate into the legal team and contribute to the firm’s work. This level of trust gave me a unique opportunity to apply the knowledge I had acquired to practical situations and see first-hand how the legal profession operates. From the outset, I was also given the opportunity to participate in client meetings which also contributed towards the development of soft skills.
Looking back at my time as a trainee, I am grateful to have gained such valuable experience and to have had the chance to work alongside such knowledgeable and experienced legal professionals.
Can you tell us what it’s been like since becoming an associate with us?
My experience as an associate at David Zahra & Associates Advocates has been incredibly rewarding, thanks to the firm’s commitment to providing numerous opportunities for growth.
One of the things that I value the most about my position is that I have been given the opportunity to work closely with clients on diverse matters which have allowed me to develop a varied set of skills, broaden my knowledge, and ensure growth as a legal professional.
Moreover, the firm’s culture of excellence and mutual respect has created a supportive and enjoyable work environment. This has helped me to learn from my colleagues and contribute to the success of the firm, creating a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment in my work.
Overall, I am grateful for the opportunities that the firm has provided me and look forward to continuing to grow and develop in this dynamic legal environment.
What’s the one advice would you give to upcoming law students who are thinking of joining our trainnee’s programme?
My advice to law students considering joining our trainee programme would be to seize every opportunity that comes your way.
During your traineeship, you will be exposed to a wide range of legal matters, giving you a unique insight into the day-to-day work of a lawyer. This experience will be instrumental in building your confidence, developing your legal skills, and broadening your knowledge.
To make the most of your traineeship, I encourage you to be proactive, ask questions, and seek guidance from your colleagues. The firm’s commitment to quality training and development opportunities will lay the foundation for a successful legal career.
