July 12, 2024

Alexia Bonnici has recently represented David Zahra & Associates Advocates at a conference organized by the Malta Maritime Forum titled ‘ESG in Maritime’.

The conference, held on 27th June 2024 at the ‘Notch Conference Centre’ in Kappara, sought to analyze the different elements of ESG, with a specific focus on the challenges encountered by maritime stakeholders.

Speakers emphasized to participants from the maritime industry the critical role of governance (“G”) in attaining environmental (“E”) and social (“S”) objectives while simultaneously highlighting that effective implementation of ESG practices is not only essential for regulatory adherence but also enhances companies’ competitive advantages, bolstering their reputation and brand.

An insightful discussion centered on the pivotal role of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in fostering stronger partnerships between businesses and financial institutions. It was noted that embracing ESG practices can serve as a catalyst for establishing robust relationships between firms and credit institutions, and that proactive investment in skill development is crucial, in view of the transformative shifts which are reshaping the industry.

In addition to expanding the firm’s expertise on these issues, the conference offered a valuable chance for integration within Malta’s Maritime Community.
